AMENEYRO AND THE MEXICAN JAZZ
San Cristobal de las Casas is a little mountain town located in Chiapas in the deep south of Mexico. It is in this unthinkable place where Jazz is happening and is happening big time. Whereas the music scenes are always taking place in large cities, San Cristobal has positioned itself as an international spot because of its wonderful landscapes and its multicultural life. San Cristobal tourist influx has made it the perfect scenario where artist of all over the world came to perform and Jazz is no exception.
It was almost fourteen years ago when the jazz duo, Ameneyro arrived to San Cristobal de las Casas in search of a new spot to develop its own musical language. When they arrived Jazz was almost absent of the local music scene. Rock and Reggae where the genres more commonly found.
During those years, San Cristobal represented for Ameneyro the perfect place for practicing and performing, and the ideal spot to build a "music laboratory". Through time Ameneyro Musical language evolved along with the audience that quickly response to their sound. Pati "Pilla" in the piano and Ciro Liberato in the bass started a Jazz movement and school that eventually led to many of their students to study jazz professionally and abroad.
